Of the ugliest words ever strung together: manual lymphatic drainage

Awwwww. I'm so sad to read that.

I'm studying this in school right now. It's an amazing technique to help people suffering from edema (swelling) and especially lymphedema which frequently happens to cancer patients receiving radiation treatment. (Edema can also be caused by other things like trauma, surgery or even flying)

I'm sorry if I'm explaining something you already know but... A person's lymph system is linked directly to the immune system. The lymph system helps filter toxins, etc from the body.

Sadly during radiation your lymph nodes can be overtaxed or even die (so to speak). Once the lymph node stops working there's no bringing it back. When that happens in concentrated ares, the filtration system backs up and causes swelling, which can sometimes be very painful. MLD or Manual Lymphatic Draining is VERY helpful in reducing this swelling.

It's not the nicest sounding thing in the world but it is quite beneficial.

I hope this helps you to like those three words a little more now.

No way! I had no idea. Okay, they aren't such bad words after all.

I may even go to the special free event at my work where they explain how to do it - you never know, it might come in handy.
